What is CardLink?

Kaba exos CardLink™ brings together both “cabled online” and “cableless off-line” access control systems within one seamless system with wireless access control.

Kaba exos CardLink™ is a feature of the Kaba exos access control system. Kaba exos is an access control system that can manage an unlimited number of doors and cardholders within a multi-site environment and now can manage both online and stand-alone door units. The online readers can be traditional proximity, Proximity and PIN and Biometrics, but the offline readers can even be electromechanical cylinders and lockcases that incorporate proximity card readers for maximum security.

Both online and stand-alone components are configured and controlled within this one application. All the information about who can go where and when only needs to be entered once to control the entire system.

How does it work?

The innovative CardLink™ solution stores individual access rights for stand-alone components directly on the Legic proximity smart card. The authorisations are read by the CardLink™ stand-alone readers and then checked for the access decision.

For additional security, the system has a timed validation check in place that requires each cardholder to use their Legic card or key fob at a designated validation reader. This validation reader puts a “time stamp” on the card. If this time stamp is “out of date” because the cardholder bypasses this reader, or their card is blocked, it will not work in any of the off-line door locks. This check maintains the integrity of the off line part of the access control solution and reduces the possibility of tailgating, when a cardholder allows another person through a door without them presenting their access control card.

Once the card is revalidated, it will continue to work as normal.
