Patent Protection - Protecting locking systems By specifying a patent protected Kaba locking system you will have chosen a technically advanced & superior product. This most modern of technology coupled with Kaba's decades of experience give’s you a high level of investment security. A patent is a set of exclusive rights granted by a state to an inventor for a limited period of time in exchange for a disclosure of an invention. Typically, a patent application must include one or more claims defining the invention which must be new, inventive, and useful or industrially applicable. Where this has relevance to the lock industry is due to changes in copyright legislation that became effective on the 1st August 1999 and can be interpreted to mean that unless key systems are currently patent protected they will not be legally protected from copying.
